Okay now, let’s get a few things straight right from the start. For me, this blog is not about sailing. But, eventually you will find a few sailing stories in it. This also, is not an autobiography. But you will find stories about me and about our family here. This is definitely not a cook book. But, you will absolutely find my favorite recipe in here.
And, most important, I am not an author or a poet. I’m not even that good with the English vocabulary. So then, why am I writing this story? Or an even better question, why are you reading this? I can’t answer the second question, but I can help explain the first.
It seems that for some people (like me), when they reach a certain age, there is a desire to leave a lasting record of memorable events. It may be a fundamental desire of not wanting to be forgotten. But now I am speaking of things that are far above my pay grade. So let’s just say that I thought it might be fun to capture some of the life long events in the hope that others might enjoy hearing them.
I originally thought it might be fun to have the family write a short book of dis-jointed chapters on any subject that comes to mind. Ian and Josh suggested that a shared blog would be a much better vehicle for writing and we all quickly agreed.
One of my favorite song writers is Daryll Purpose and Val and I have seen him many times at coffee shops in New England. He was also a pretty hard core poker player….. In his song titled “Child of Hearts” there is a line: “Life is what happens in between… all the things we plan so carefully”. This always made an impression on me and I thought it could be a good name for our blog. I suggested….. “Life is what happens between the waves”, and Ian quickly suggested “Between the Waves”. Great idea!
